Klifford

“Klifford the Big Red Dog”, Golden Retriever extraordinaire! I was the first one there when I found out this litter had arrived and Klifford was my pick of a litter of 10 pups. He has very correct, solid parents and I was thrilled to be able to purchase a pup from their only litter. He was born April 2004 and moved here as a pup with us, now this is what a Golden Retriever should look like. He is correct in every way and solid as a rock and throws his kind, gentle temperament on to all his pups.

Klifford is the father of Kamryn and Kianna, so he is the Grandfather to any of my F1B Golden Doodle pups that come from Kamryn. Klifford weighs about 70 lbs. and is 23 inches at the wither. He is a very happy dog. When he goes for his run he goes to the paddock nearest the barn and checks out the Llama, Alpaca and donkeys that reside there. Then he looks to see if any barn cats are about so he can give them a lick. Next he checks on the girls (dog girls) and back to where I am cleaning pens. Every so often he takes himself on an extended run and checks the cows but on a few whistle commands from me he shows back up with the look on his face that says “you knew I was coming, what is your hurry”. This boy will die here with me of old age (hopefully him first), as will both my Poodle boys and my English Lab male. I can not foresee ever parting with them. We will all retire together if my plan works out.

Kianna

Kianna is adjusting wonderfully to her new home. Her forever family wrote:

We got Kianna shortly after her 4th birthday on March 16. She wasn’t sure what to think of the vehicle and was mighty glad to get out after our three hour drive. Kianna was attached to our hips if we were outside at all. Any other time, she would just sit on the driveway and watch the house waiting for us to emerge. She never wanted to venture too far by herself and she took a couple of weeks to get used to her surroundings. I think she was maybe a bit homesick as she is the only dog in our yard. Quite a difference coming from a yard of over 40 dogs to none! She soon fell in love with the cattle as we were in the thick of calving season when she first arrived. She got a little too close to a newborn though and momma cow didn’t care for it much. Kianna received a head bundt on the side and was bruised up for a few days. She was pretty sulky during her recovery but has not gone anyway near the cows since.

She recovered very well from her bruised ribs and ego. When we first got her, our two kids were away to university. So it was just Todd and I that were around her. Since the end of April, the two of us come in a distant second since the kids moved home for the summer. She has taken to the kids so severe. She LOVES them! Our son, likes to play rough with the dogs. She was a little timid of it at first but now she is rolling around in the grass with him all the time just smiling! Yes, dogs do smile.

Around the beginning of April, we started to venture out for walks away from the yard. This seemed fairly foreign to her. She stayed glued to our sides. Due to the time of year, with water laying around from the snow thaw, she would often venture for walks into the water. She loves the water. With her thick coat, I’m sure if feels great when she is warm. We go for walks daily now and that is truly the hilite of her day! She jumps around when we go out. She knows when its WALK time. She explores a lot more now on her own while we are out walking. She brings us gifts often. So far she has brought us multiple mice, a muskrat and a mallard duck. We have a few wild cats in the yard, and she makes sure they know who belongs at the house…its not the cats!

Anyway, Kianna is a great addition to our family. She took a little while to get used to the new place, but she has adjusted well. She has lost some weight since she came to us. We weighed her when she came and she was around 97 lbs. I weighed her the other day and she was at 90 lbs. She is a gentle soul that loves attention. If she doesn’t get it, she lets you know she needs a nose scratch! She smiles a lot more now and is very much a part of the family. Thank you for gifting her to us. She is doing very well. We have nicknamed her ‘Old Bear’. She is just adorable!

Kianna is now spayed and looking for a farm or acreage home, I am asking half the price it cost to spay her which works out to be about $200. Kianna is a low energy girl, she was born March 8th, 2010, so will be four this March. Truthfully she should still be having pups but she is not cut out to be a mother. First litter she laid on her pups one by one, second litter she didn’t figure it out until she was down to three pups, and I can not take the heartache of trying this again. Kianna loves kids and would make a great deck dog. She will bark when someone comes but will be quiet as soon as she is told, she is definitely not ‘watch dog’ material…she would sound the alarm but don’t expect her to keep the burglar at bay!

This is a young healthy dog with all her shots up to date and healed up from her spay, she would even make a good second dog as she gets along with everyone and everything, she even likes cats! She is an easy keeper as well, she needs less food and more exercise, she has never been thin even as a pup. She is kind and gentle, her big brown eyes just want me to find her a good home for the rest of her life. Meet Kianna, my only Golden Retriever female that I kept back from Katie and “Klifford the Big Red Dog“. I just couldn’t let Katie retire without having a replacement to continue her legacy. Katie is retired now and got a dream home on an acreage near Riding Mountain National Park in Manitoba.

Kianna was born March 8th. 2010, so she will have her first litter next spring when she is two. She will be bred to a Poodle. Kianna just went on to adult dog food. I keep my pups on puppy formula until they are a year old (for the extra calcium, they really need this once they are going to be used for breeding). Kianna is not a tall dog, about 21 inches at the wither, but she is solid. She weighs about 55 lbs. at a year old and is so much like her quiet, wise mother that it is almost like having Katie here again. This girl should go on to produce some solid F1 Golden Doodles.

Dezi

Dezi is a grey F1 Golden Doodle. She was born black but her first clip showed she was really grey. I do not know if she will pass this on to her pups. Dezi was born February 23rd. 2009. Her father is Pluto, my black Standard Poodle, and her mother is Kamryn, one of my original Golden Retrievers.

This girl is super gentle and kind, with great confirmation. She matured on the smaller side, weighing about 45 lbs. and about 21 inches at the wither. She whelped with her first litter on March 27th and has only two pups available: one black male and one black female. The father to these F1B Golden Doodle pups is Einstein (apricot Standard Poodle), so, if I was a betting girl, I would bet these will be the smaller of the F1B Golden Doodles I produce this year. Both Dezi and Einstein are slighter built so these should not be big dogs…about 50 lbs. tops for weight and 21 to 22 inches at the wither for height.

Dixie

Dixie is now retired and living happily with a family near Springside. Her new family wrote:

Dixie is adjusting to her life here. She is still shy around us but is warming up slowly. I love her quiet personality at night though. She loves to be off her chain and explore our farm. The kids love to take her for walks on the leash.

Dixie is an F1 Golden Doodle from Kelli, one of my original Golden Retrievers. I owned Kelli’s mother Bailey, also, and Kelli’s father is a Platinum blonde Golden Retriever owned by Telford Kennels who produced some pretty outstanding pups in his day.

Dixie’s father is Pluto, my black Standard Poodle and she was born February 1st. 2006, she will have her last litter this fall and then be retired to a farm or acreage home. Dixie has the poorest hair coat of all my Doodles but the best confirmation. She produces very good quality pups with non shedding coats that are wavy rather than curly.

This bloodline is outstanding for temperament and confirmation. The only fault that they had was producing extremely large litters which was hard on them and me. Dixie seems to have skipped that gene and has had normal sized litters (she came from a litter of 14, as did Kelli). Dixie is the girl that will let me know if someone has arrived or the cows or horses are out. When she barks, something is happening outside! Once she knows I have been alerted, she settles down. There have been a few times that we would have been chasing critters if she hadn’t let us know they were out! She is not a wanderer, although she loves to go to the pasture and see if there are any gophers out (but has never caught one that I know of). She uses her free time to scout out the farm with our cow dog “Mudflap” and then comes back and waits to be put in her pen. This girl is crazy about kids and gets really excited when there are kids that come to visit. I am hoping to place her on a farm or acreage home with children when she retires this fall.

Doe Dee

Doe Dee and Dinah are full sisters, same litter, born March 13th, 2008. They are half sisters to Kianna as they have the same mother, Katie. Doe Dee and Dinah are from my Apricot Standard Poodle Einstein, making them F1 Golden Doodles. Neither of them shed, they do however have to be clipped at least twice a year. I really want them to go together as they have been together their entire life, they will be six in March and each has had three litters of awesome F1B Golden Doodle pups. Doe Dee is the apricot and Dinah is the blonde in the pictures.

Both these girls have the Doodle trait of smiling, especially if they think they are in trouble. Dinah is more of a barker than Doe Dee but they only bark if something is amiss, like the horses or cows are out, or something is in the yard, then they are quiet when told. My advise would be to tie both for a few days, then let one go and take turns tying them for about two weeks, by then they will have it figured out that this is their new home. They are both gentle with kids and their favourite thing is to be fussed over, petted or brushed. These girls have done their job here now and are looking to me to find them the right forever home on a farm or acreage, I am asking half the price of their spay, they are all healed up and have all shots up to date, so I would like $200 each to assure my dogs are not going to be resold or abused in any way. Doe Dee is an F1 Golden Doodle, born March 13th., 2008. I kept her and her full sister Dinah from this litter. Her mother is Katie (Golden Retriever) and her father is Einstein (apricot Standard Poodle). I have three Golden Doodles that I kept back from Katie, and one Golden Retriever. Katie has such a gentle personality and good solid build that is was hard not to keep more from her bloodlines.

Doe Dee was bred to Pluto and whelped with her first litter March 27th. Her litter of F1B Golden Doodles has 7 fat cuddly little characters: 1 apricot male, 2 apricot females, 3 black males and 1 black female. Their eyes are open now and they are starting to play with me when I give them their cuddle time (this is my little bit of heaven, play time mixed with work time). These pups bring a lot of joy to me and later will bring joy to the new family that adopts them. These pups need to go to forever homes where they will dedicate themselves with love and loyalty; many years of being a member of the family lay ahead for each of these little characters. This year my girls have produced the best selection of pups yet. My pups are health guaranteed for two years for hips, elbows, ears and eyes for anything hereditary and I am here to advise on training or health issues.

Doe Dee is excelling at mothering her pups and is really impressing me with her dedication to this ‘job at hand’. These pups should mature at about 55 to 65 lbs. and will be non shedding.

Daisy

Daisy had a little excitement recently. When I place my retired dogs I make sure they have a current rabies tag on them so if something were to happen they can be traced to my beloved Melville Vet Clinic and I can track down the new owner and find out what happened that the dog was running at large. Happy ending to this saga but not until I had spent a whole night worrying that she wasn’t happy there. I know some of my dogs come looking for me, she would have had a very long trek as she lives near Portage La Prairie now with her new family. She is a companion dog for Nathan who has some mental issues. I am glad to say she is back where she is supposed to be today. She looks happy enough to be waiting for Tina to prune bushes, with no leash attached. They told us:

Daisy is ok and safe with us. I had put her on my deck, on leash. She chewed it and ran to neighbors. She really likes to be with people all the time!! She has figured out how to escape her wire kennel now but I tied it shut last night so she stayed put. That’s not her favorite spot by no means. We laugh at her because she won’t win so she might as well just give in now and save her energy. Her & I are in yard trimming \ pruning my shrubs. She’s happy!!

Daisy has gone to her new home, she is a companion dog for Nathan who lives on a beautiful farm near Portage La Prairie. She and Nathan hit it off right away and they are now inseparable buddies. Nathan gave me a big hug before I drove away, it is very hard for me to let my retired females go but she has a very important job to do now and that is what I like, happy endings. Her new family wrote:

Life is Grand! We are fortunate to have lovely Miss Daisy living with us. Are you sure she’s not house trained haha….she is very ladylike! She hates her kennel, doesn’t stop barking in there, but I’ll win the battle. She loves our deck, it has gates that we keep closed. She’s part of the action all day with boys in the pool, meal times etc. She seems to love us especially me!

Daisy is an F1 Golden Doodle from Katie (Golden Retriever) and Pluto (black Standard Poodle), born January 4, 2007. Daisy is my slightest built Golden Doodle and she produces smaller pups. She has just had her second litter. Last year she did not get pregnant, this year she whelped April 9th. Her litter of 8 F1B Golden Doodles has 3 black females, 2 black males, 2 apricot males and one apricot female. The father of these pups is Einstein, my apricot Standard Poodle….I estimate that Daisy’s pups will mature at about 50 lbs. and be quite curly.

Daisy has a very quiet temperament and has one of those ‘just happy to be here’ personalities. She is a real home body. No matter who she is loose with for her run, she sticks close to the house…although these dogs are allowed to go to the field and corrals to look for gophers to chase, Daisy chooses to stick with me…this is how Katie (her mother) was. A real people dog, loyal, gentle and very obedient and an easy to be around kind of dog, quick to pick up on what it is that you want her to do.

Dinah

Yesterday Dinah got her 2014 Spring haircut, she feels so much better. This clip takes about 4 hours so we hope her new owner appreciates how great she looks after all winter’s growth is removed.

This gentle soul is Dinah, my F1 Golden Doodle. Her mother is my now retired Blonde Golden Retriever “Katie” who now lives on an acreage near Riding Mountain Park in Manitoba. Her father is Einstein, my Apricot Standard Poodle. I broke my own rule with Dinah and her full sister (same litter) Doe Dee, I only separated them briefly as pups and then put them back together. They are very strongly bonded to each other. I got sick and spent a lot of time in the hospital so they remained kenneled together. They were three in March and have just recently had their first litters. With these two girls I was not in a rush to get them bred as they seemed to want to be puppies longer than the norm, likely due to having their sibling with them full time. Both Dinah and DoeDee weigh about 55 lbs. and are about 22 inches at the wither. Their mother, Katie, was my shortest Golden Retriever but also my stockiest.

Dinah is blonde, curly, does not shed but does get the occasional matt (which I just pluck out) between clippings. These are farm raised dogs that go for runs down to the corrals and play in the yard when I am in my flower beds or painting, so they get clipped to the hide twice a year. They need clipping now but due to this colder than usual spring they are still in full winter coat, only the tummies and back ends are clipped to make it easier for pups to nurse.

On April 9th., Dinah whelped her first litter, they are F1B Golden Doodles, they are from Pluto, my Black Standard Poodle. She is an awesome mum and has 6 fat little characters: 2 black males, 2 black females, 1 apricot male and 1 apricot female…talk about an even litter. When I sit with her pups she actually smiles at me, she is beside herself with pride at what she has done and watches every move I make with her puppies. She was very worried when I took them, three at a time, to remove dew claws. She stays with them very well (some mothers don’t) and keeps them spotless. These pups will be an awesome kids dog as they have gentleness bred deep into their bloodlines and are from very intelligent, loyal and clean stock with great confirmation.

Dayle

Update on October 20, 2011 – Added some pictures of Dayle in her new home! This lucky dog has scored a pretty awesome home for the rest of her life!

Dayle is now retired and has found a love seat in her forever home that she has claimed as her own. She has two other dogs and two cats to play with and her new owners are already raving about what a good dog she is. She was always an outside dog here so I was a little concerned about them taking her into the house but they tell me she has never made a mistake, always asks out and goes to her spot in the yard… I am always thrilled when people brag about my retired girls!

Dayle is a blonde F1 LabraDoodle, born August 14, 2006. She presently has 8 puppies, born March 31st, 2011. All are blonde or apricot in color, 6 males and 2 females. This is her 3rd litter. She will have her final litter next year about the same time and then will retire to a farm or acreage home.

Dayle is from my now retired Chocolate English Labrador Retriever named Abbey. It was extremely hard to part with Abbey when she retired as this girl gave me some outstanding Lab and Doodle pups. Dayles father is Pluto, my black Standard Poodle, and she was bred all three times to Einstein, my Apricot Standard Poodle. Amazingly enough Dayle, having a Chocolate mother and black father, is blonde and has not thrown one chocolate or black pup in three litters.

This girl has the stout Lab build and throws pups that tend to mature bigger than Danni’s. Dayle’s pups mature at 60 to 75 lbs. Her pups are non shedding F1B LabraDoodles. She has a very calm temperament and that ‘wise old owl’ look about her. I am very happy with the quality of pups I am getting from both my F1 Labra Doodle girls. Dayle weighs about 60 lbs. and stands 23 inches at the wither, her half sister Danni is only 21 inches at the wither. Both girls have the Lab head and are both wavy coated.

Danni

Danni is a black F1 LabraDoodle and was born September 3rd. 2006. She presently has her third litter (born April 3, 2011). Her next litter will be her last and then she will be retired to a farm or acreage home.

Danni is from a very good black English Labrador Retriever named Kimberly. Danni was an only pup but such an exceptional pup that I decided to keep her and hope she didn’t have such small litters (Kimberly’s first litter was two pups). Needless to say, Kimberly was retired early, and Danni did not follow in her mothers foot steps- she has had one litter of 5 and two litters of 6. Each litter has been a year apart.

Danni’s father is my black Standard Poodle, Pluto, and she has been bred all three times to my Apricot Standard Poodle, Einstein. She produces F1B LabraDoodle pups that mature at about 50 lbs. and are non shedders. Danni is a very calm dog, good with kids, loves the barn cats and is well mannered around all the other dogs and farm animals. She weighs about 50 lbs. and is my smallest female LabraDoodle.
